WI members at the Royal Albert Hall
More than 5,000 WI members attended the National Federation of Women's Institutes 2007 AGM at the Royal Albert Hall in London on Wednesday 6 June 2007.

Chair Fay Mansell opened the meeting that included speeches from: Honorary Treasurer Sally Roberts: Denman College Chair Anne Harrison; Baroness Hayman, the Speaker of the House of Lords; Stuart Rose, Chief Executive of Marks & Spencer; and Alan Cook, Managing Director of Post Office Ltd.

The WI Carbon Challenge, supported by Marks & Spencer, was officially launched at the AGM. The Challenge invites WI members and consumers to reduce their carbon footprints by 20%.

WI members voted in favour of the resolution put forward urging 'HM Government to stop the closure of community hospitals, which provide essential services to local people'. The resolution was passed with a 99% majority.
